Chapter 11: Operation Happiness!

Here’s a little story for all of you.

Last night my mother called me at 9:45. My mother raised us to understand that the only time it is polite to make a phone call is between 9 AM and 9 PM. So, naturally, as soon as I said hello I hung up on her. She called me back and we had a good laugh.

That is not the story.

Mama spun me a nice tale about a coworker of hers that has been working in Ellsworth lately and has been having a hard week. So we plotted. We planned. And here’s what I did at 2:30 PM today.

I stepped out of the shower at 2:30 and shaved my face. I then got dressed and made some lunch. Upon my hair drying and the bathroom mirror clearing I spiked The ‘Hawk like nobody’s business. I donned my scarf, my leather jacket, popped the collar, left my apartment and headed to Ellsworth. I procured a bright, bright bouqet of Spring flowers and headed over to Mardens where Mama’s friend, Bonnie, was working.

I  found her ensconced in the fabrics department, presented her the gift with my mother’s best wishes and watched as her whole world brightened. We talked about Mama, and work and family for 10 minutes or so, and then I was on my way to other things with a bounce in my step and a grin on my face.

The point is the obvious one, making people happy by surprise is a surefire way to brighten your own day! By showing up with flowers and a message from Mama, I proved to Bonnie part 1 of Chapter 1. Bonnie knows some one loves her! And the proof made her so happy

So go forth and make someone else happy today! It will make you happy you did it.
